When you travel as much as I do, you get picky about seats on planes, especially 8-14 hour rides. Only rookies leave it up to the gate agent to assign them a seat — the middle seat. Everyone else either calls ahead or books seats on the airline’s website. Since every airline lays out their seats differently, the best site to help you figure out what the best seat on any plane is SeatGuru.

March 3rd, 2007Countries I have visited
February 27th, 2007My family is filled with travelers. It is in our blood. Even my 84+ year old grandmother is still traveling. This year she is going to China for over a week. She is behind many others in the family, so she has some catching up to do. My other grandparents have been to 100+ countries.
See below for a cool website that lets you map where you have been. This is the map I created from my 45…and, obviously, counting…

Chimpanzee encounter
February 26th, 2007On Saturday, Dawn invited me to spend the morning with a chimpanzee. It is not everyday you get that sort of invitation, so, of course, I took her up on it. A lady in Clearwater raises chimps in her home. She has two adolescents and one baby. We only played with the baby, Noah, who is about a year old. Spending time up close with such an interesting animal was a totally new way to spend a Saturday morning.
Noah had lots of energy and was even more playful than you might expect. The little guy was kind enough to give Dawn and I even play time ensuring both of us had a great time. If you are interested, you can read more about the lady who takes care of these great animals on her website, Valbuena Chimps.

CrossFit success
February 14th, 2007If you are curious about if CrossFit works, here is a boast and a testimonial:
I entered the base pull-up contest today. Two months ago, I could do about 13 pull-ups (not bad). Today, I won the competition out of 20+ Marines (the most fanatical pull-up advocates I know), Army, Navy, and Air Force guys by doing 26 pull-ups, tying the base record.
All that in just a couple months on the program. Thanks CrossFit.
Crossfit
February 13th, 2007I have been lifting weights since I was 15. It has been a way of life for me for so long that I get grumpy when I go more than a few days without working out.
My workouts have progressed over the years, as I learned more. I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge about fitness. Over the last few years, I have learned and practiced more and more functional fitness. Then a few months ago, a co-worker of mine introduced me to CrossFit. CrossFit is the summation of all that I had studied, tested, and experienced. In other words, these great people had it all figured out. I have been training using their workouts and philosophy since learning about it. Like many other CrossFitters, it has become my religion.
Expect to see me write about it a lot more on here. For now, I want all of you to check out the website. CrossFit acolytes are police, fire, special forces, ultimate fighters, and even housewives. Using their training methods, people are finding heretofore unknown gains in strength, endurance, and overall fitness. Their results are phenomenal. Check it out. It is on my links on the right.
Best of all? It is all free.
Brain freeze cure
February 12th, 2007Somewhere in the past, someone gave me the (almost) perfect cure for a brain freeze.
Brain freeze? We have all had them — drank something cold too fast leading to a headache.
Cure? Pinch the tip of your tongue. This remedy works for about 85% of the dozens of people I have suggested it to over the years.
